Our Story

Once upon a time…

Our Story began on a Sunday afternoon in 2019. Feeling a bit stifled in our townhouse, Steve and I decided to embark on an unplanned drive through the countryside. It was during this spontaneous adventure that God intervened—we stumbled upon an enchanting 1860s farmhouse that had just hit the market. In that moment, we knew we had found our forever home.

Growing up with horses, I always felt a deep connection to animals and country life. The moment we set foot on this property, it was as if the land itself was calling me back home. The open fields and the charm of the old house felt like a warm embrace, and I could already envision a life filled with hope and joy.

Our First Rescue

In the Spring of 2021 we adopted our first miniature horse. Due to her crazy hair we named her “Mini Pearl”. As time passed we realized she was special. Many physical issues began to emerge. Like Steve’s son, Will, we knew that her needs would require extra attention. Seizures, locked hind quarters and persistent G.I. issues were her life.

Like Will, Mini Pearl never let her specialness steal her joy and zest for life. Just before her 3rd birthday she fractured her back leg. On February 6, 2024 she crossed the rainbow bridge leaving our heavy hearts behind.

God had plans for us, and Mini Pearl was just the beginning.

As of 2024, and our little slice of heaven is now home to 26 beloved animals, each with its own vibrant personality, and several Little Red Barns—(each one a reflection of my happy place.) From the playful antics of our bunnies to the gentle presence of our horses, every day at Storybook Farm is infused with love.

Though we cherish our sanctuary, we always felt a deeper purpose for our farm. In front porch moments of quiet reflection, God pressed upon our hearts the realization this farm was meant to be shared—a place of serenity, belonging, and community. We envision Storybook Farm as not just an animal sanctuary, but as a haven for healing, connection, and joy as well as an escape from the busy world.
