Donkeys
The cutest bunch of mini-donkeys you ever did see!
Mini-donkeys, also known as miniature donkeys, are a smaller variety of the standard donkey and possess many of the same characteristics. Typically standing between 28 to 36 inches tall at the shoulder, mini-donkeys retain the distinctive long ears, braying sounds, and calm demeanor of their larger counterparts.
These gentle creatures are often kept as companion animals due to their sociable nature. Mini-donkeys are known for their intelligence and can form strong bonds with humans and other animals. Their friendly disposition makes them popular for family farms and as therapy animals.
Social animals by nature, mini-donkeys should ideally be kept in pairs or with other animals to prevent loneliness and maintain their mental well-being.
Most of our mini-donkeys came from breeding farms where they were no longer useful and were being let go.

Gus
A lady in Reidsville, NC had traveled up north to pick up a load of over a dozen mini donkeys that were either being sold or abandoned.
We wanted to adopt a couple to protect our first Miniature horse (Mini Pearl) . We went to look at them and Gus (the brown and white one) followed Steve all over the big dirt lot. It was clear he did not want us to leave without him. So, we came home with Gus and selected Jenny. (one of the few that was not pregnant).

Sissy
Sissy is Tinkerbells 1/2 sister.
She is 1 yo. Honestly, we thought she was the cutest thing ever when we went to get Tinkerbell, So, we purchased her with plans that she was a newborn and could be trained to love on our guest at Storybook Farm. She has not let us down. She is VERY sweet.
Her funny story is that Gus happens to be the color of her mother. So, for the first 1 year she kept trying to nurse off of him.

Tinkerbell
Tinkerbell was born on September 10, 2020, near Charlotte, NC, where her family bred donkeys. As she grew, they quickly realized she was special. You might call her a micro mini, as she weighs about 125 pounds. Due to her small size, they decided not to breed her. We adopted her in the spring of 2024, and she now calls Storybook Farm her home. Tinkerbell may be the smallest donkey, but she is denitely the loudest. She loves having her hindquarters scratched and will greet you at the gate.
